Konki Ace was successfully developed by Sapporo Beer Company in 1984. It was successfully bred in Konchi Prefecture, Hokkaido, hence its name.
Konki Ace is a cross between the male hop of the brewer Golde, Saz and 3 Eikei No. Originally intended to create a variety similar to Saz, the konki Ace with high formic acid, high yield and strong disease resistance stood out.
It has limited brewing properties, but has long enjoyed success in craft beers thanks to its distinctive cumin like aroma and distinct lemon flavor. It also has subtle aromas of incense smoke, lime and natto.
Konki Ace is currently only grown in the United States and is used to brew Belgian-style beers such as Seson.
